Visit the Jisc innovations lab

Our innovation lab will showcase the latest in our innovative solutions, technology that seeks to enhance and add value to your digital transformation journey. These demos include AI, smart campus technology, a virtual classroom and Metaverse Learning virtual reality environments (visit metaverselearning.com for more info). We would love for you to come and try out these proof of concepts and products to see how they can benefit you and your institution, as well as provide us feedback and suggestions for future projects that would support your digital strategy.

These are just a sample size of the innovation demonstrated at Digifest 2023. Taking place 7-8 March at the ICC Birmingham, Digifest brings together the UK’s learning, teaching, and research communities to share and showcase digital innovation and success while looking ahead to the future education landscape and focusing on the issues that really matter. This year we are shining a spotlight on the immense innovation throughout learning, teaching, research, from practitioner to leader. Throughout the sectors, from those who introduce new technology to those whose creative mindsets add value through new ideas and thinking differently, we celebrate all innovators. We are here to support you innovate, through our thought leadership, trusted partner relationships and products.

A strategic approach to digital transformation

Delivered by: Jisc

Leaders will share first-hand experiences of their college’s digital transformation journey. You will hear examples of effective practice from colleges at different levels of digital maturity from leaders at Barnsley College, Hull College and Weston College. Whether your organisation is at the start of its digital transformation, or more digitally mature, you will take away ideas and inspiration from your peers’ experiences. You will also hear how you can get the most out of Jisc’s digital elevation tool, which has been co-designed with the sector, to support your own digital transformation strategy.

Speakers:

  • Deborah Millar, executive director of digital transformation, Hull college
  • Paul McKean, director of FE and skills and training, Jisc
  • Rachel James, assistant principal for teaching & learning, Barnsley college
  • Jon Hofgartner, assistant principal – digital technologies, Weston college

Cyber attacks in FE, challenges and support

Delivered by: Jisc and National Centre for Cyber Security

As the number of cyberattacks targeting colleges continues to rise, this session will look at the most common threats facing FE right now, the types of incidents we are seeing most regularly, and the destructive impact ransomware has on a college. We will also share how the NCSC and Jisc will be working together to support you in strengthening your defences. The session will finish with a panel discussion on how we can address cyber security challenges collectively as a sector. This will give you an opportunity to raise and address any specific concerns you may have related to cyber security.

Speakers:

  • John Chapman, head of Janet policy and strategy, Jisc
  • Laura C, Resilience Officer, NCSC
  • Henry Hughes, infrastructure - security director, Jisc
  • David Batho, head of protective services, Jisc
