Gathering insights from Learning Analytics data and evidencing impact

Learning Analytics (LA) has been part of the Higher Education landscape for over a decade and interventions made using LA data show promise in improving student retention, progression and attainment.

Sheffield Hallam University received a grant from Transforming Access and Student Outcomes (TASO) to conduct an independent evaluation of learning analytics interventions. The study aimed to generate type 3 causal evidence and focused on improving student engagement, retention, and outcomes using the Jisc Learning Analytics platform (DataX) to identify low- or non-engaging students. This session will report on the project, our findings, outcomes and reflections.

We will conclude with an open discussion about how interventions made using LA data are currently being made within the sector, or how this may be adopted within institutions to improve student outcomes that would create evidence of impact on student engagement, continuation and completion.
