Thursday 30 March - Jisc sessions

Demonstrating digital transformation: A framework for higher education

  • Location: Collaboration space
  • Speaker: Simon Birkett, senior consultant - Jisc

What needs to be in place at an organisational level for a university to achieve digital transformation? There are multiple factors for success, including effective digital leadership, appropriate investment, robust infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, and digitally capable staff and students.

The Jisc digital transformation framework provides a structure that can be used to break down various elements of digital transformation. It offers varying degrees of detail - from broad statements to illustrative examples of more specific activities.

This participatory session will offer delegates the opportunity to engage with the framework, discuss how this can support their universities with driving forward change, and to input into the development of a maturity model for HE.

Understanding the international students' digital experience

  • Location: Collaboration space
  • Speakers:
    • Sarah Knight, head of learning and teaching transformation - higher education, Jisc
    • Esther Wilkinson, head of international - Jisc

With the impact of the pandemic and uptake of digital in all aspects of the student experience, it has raised the importance of understanding the expectations and experiences that international students have of their digital environment.

This panel will discuss the factors influencing the digital experience of international students coming to learn in the UK, including national and institutional factors. The panel will discuss current institutional practice and will include contributions from a UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) student ambassador who will share their experiences of using digital to support their learning.
