About

The student experience experts group has been influential in many aspects of Jisc’s work on the student experience including learning and curriculum design, assessment and feedback, building digital capability and research into students’ digital experience.

This face to face meeting offers opportunities for members to hear about and feed into the development of Jisc’s work on learning and curriculum design, developing a framework for digital transformation and how we are researching the international students’ digital experience.

Our student experience experts group continues to play a key role in informing and influencing the direction of future Jisc work in learning, teaching and assessment. For more information about the group or to find out how to become a member visit our website

This meeting offers opportunities for the group to:

  • Feed into the development of a framework for digital transformation
  • Discuss approaches to curriculum and learning design and how these are being supported in your college or university
  • Participate in discussions around how to best support the digital experience of international students
  • Share examples of effective institutional practice and research in digital learning, teaching and assessment

To celebrate the work of this valuable group, we would like to gather quotes and stories from members on how this group has informed your practice or how you have contributed to the group over the years. We would love to hear from you and if you would like to contribute please submit your contributions using this link.

Workshops (choice of one)

Workshop one: Approaches to learning and curriculum design

Consultants Sheila MacNeill and Helen Beetham have produced a landscape review (2022) of approaches to curriculum and learning design in the UK higher education sector, in light of the experiences of online learning and teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic. Outcomes of the review include:

- Summary of published research including staff/student experiences of online learning during the pandemic

- Definitions and an overview of curriculum and learning design methods and frameworks in current use

- A survey of UK HE organisations and interviews with expert practitioners, to describe current practices and the emerging challenges

- Recommendations for further resources, guidance and partnerships around curriculum and learning design, with a focus on student engagement across diverse modes of participation (online/in person, synchronous/asynchronous, guided/independent, large/small group settings)

This workshop will focus on the recommendations, asking participants to comment on resources planned and in development, and to share resources they have used or developed themselves
