Celebrating 50 Networkshops and the Janet Network

Our first Networkshop was in 1977 taking place in Glasgow. Since then, Networkshop and Janet has evolved to what it is today, with Janet now providing 600+ direct peerings to key education and research network facilities and cloud providers (including Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Apple), key content providers (BBC, Facebook, Netflix, Akamai) as well as supporting international collaborations.

The world has rapidly adapted to new ways of working, and a digital culture has become the new normal. Networkshop will equip you with the latest information on the technology and infrastructure developments you will need to stay ahead of the curve. Uncover the power of technology and navigate a new agile learning and research environment, on and off campus. Securing access anytime, anywhere is a key challenge to overcome.

Transformation is a team sport. IT staff, and security teams need to become more agile. There is a lot to unpack, but it starts with building a modern ‘digital transformation culture’ and Networkshop aims to help you on your journey.

Cloud as an enabler

Is cloud an enabler and disruptor? Or does it depend on the technology investment choices you make?

Cloud provides a flexible and agile solution to traditional IT infrastructure, allowing for innovation and change. To get there, however, you need to ensure the technology investments you make today will support your infrastructure needs over the next few years.

Is your institution working towards net zero, eliminating the emissions from your digital operations? Cloud is a welcomed improvement. Less hardware running fewer workloads means less electricity consumed. The only issue is, cloud data centres still need electricity to power, so we will look to debate how we work to net zero.

We all make security decisions every day, like switching on the security alarm even though we may not know how it works. Boards regularly make financial or risky decisions without needing to know the finer details. Rely on cyber security experts to provide insight to make informed decisions.
